Band Directors Click Here to Register
Registration Cost: $300

The West Ada Marching Clinic & Competition is being offered as an educational experience to benefit the students and staff members of each participating band and entertain parents, family, friends, and the community. We have hired nationally renowned clinicians/judges for this event to give our participants a world-class experience. Our clinicians/judging consist of: Individual Music, Ensemble Music, GE Music, Percussion, Individual Visual, Ensemble Visual, GE Visual, and Color Guard / Auxiliary. These experts give positive information to students and teachers alike, to help each ensemble reach its maximum potential.

Each band receives two thirty-minute clinics with a total of four clinicians. The first clinic is held on the field and the second will be held outside the stadium at a standstill. Band directors can choose what they want to work on, and the clinicians will give productive feedback to help improve each program.

Bands are encouraged to watch other bands’ clinics throughout the day, with the goal for students to observe and learn.

For the competition, the classification of the participating bands will follow the current Idaho District 3 guidelines, scoring sheets, and weights. Trophies for high score in each caption and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies in each division will be presented.

About the Clinic and Competition

  • All West Ada Schools have an artificial turf field.
  • Classification of the bands will follow the current Idaho D3 guidelines and scoring sheets.
  • The hosting school’s band will be performing in exhibition in the evening contest.
  • Passes will be provided for your entire staff.
  • 1 chaperone pass per 10 students.
  • One free ticket for each band student in the middle school feeder programs of the bands that attend. Rosters must be provided ahead of time (date TBA), and student IDs are required.
  • Two 30-minute clinics will be provided to each participating ensemble.

What happens in the Stadium clinic?

Bands will have 30 minutes to practice/perform in the stadium with clinicians to assist and comment. You do not have to be in uniform for your clinics.

Here’s what we’re recommending each band do with their 30 minutes of time:

  • Treat the first 15 minutes as a rehearsal.
  • Run chunks of the show, maybe once with just percussion & drill, and next time with the full band playing.
  • Staff members will be able to sit in the stands and talk with the clinicians/judges as the band practices
  • during this time; color guard staff with the guard judge, percussion staff with the percussion judge, etc.
  • We recommend you use your last 10 minutes to do a run-through of your show

What happens in the out-of-stadium clinic?

  • A music & visual judge will work with the wind performers & staff.
  • A percussion judge will work with the percussion performers & staff.
  • A color guard judge will work with the color guard performers & staff.
  • Constructive, applicable feedback & encouragement are the priorities.

Priorities of the Clinicians:

  • Clinicians/Judges will make a digital comments for your ensemble of your run through
  • Clinicians/Judges will not score or put down numbers during your clinic/run through
  • Clinicians/Judges will be free to speak with you about aspect of your show, not limited to their specific caption. Constructive, applicable feedback & encouragement are the priorities.

What happens after the clinic?

Bands are encouraged to watch the remaining bands in the stadium during their 30 minute blocks. The clinics will be held in a way which promotes a comfortable, supportive environment, and relaxing atmosphere. This is a great opportunity for the students/staff/directors to observe other bands do “their thing”. There is no awards ceremony after the 30 minute clinic blocks are completed.

Dinner break will immediately follow the end of the clinics.

  • Bands will already know their performance time for the evening contest well in advance of the contest.
  • Bands are expected to perform in full uniform for the evening contest.
  • Drum Major retreat will immediately follow the host band’s exhibition performance.
  • Trophies for high score in each caption will be presented, as well as, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies in each division
